The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has extended the deadline for motorcycle owners to install manually made front number plates to 31 December 2026.
The revised deadline was announced in a notice published on the BRTA’s Facebook page. The previous deadline was 15 November.
Under the directive, motorcycle owners must display registration numbers at the front of their vehicles in addition to the digital number plates fitted at the rear. Failure to comply with the requirement may lead to legal action.
The BRTA had earlier said the measure was intended to strengthen traffic management and surveillance.
The front plates must be made of stainless steel or aluminium, with a white background and black Bengali letters and numerals. Designs and decorative elements are not permitted.
The prescribed dimensions differ by vehicle type. Plates for scooters must measure 200mm by 100mm, while those for other motorcycles must measure 285mm by 50mm. In both cases, the letters and numerals must be at least 20mm high.
The Road Transport Act, 2018, and the Road Transport Rules, 2022, already require motorcycles to display retro-reflective number plates with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags at the rear.
