Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though, created several iconic comic book covers of the web-slinger. Yet, in the movie, an actor’s Marvel comeback was chopped.
She was Claire Temple, portrayed by Rosaria Dawson.
The fan-favorite nurse character first appeared in the Daredevil series and was followed by appearances across several Marvel shows.
Appearing at the Daredevil panel at GalaxyCon – after being asked by a fan – revealed she indeed shot a scene in the super-hit Spidey film.
“Well, I’m going to have to say I could have said Spider-Man,” she said, adding, “I even shot a scene in the new Spider-Man movie. But I got cut out.”
As the crowd groaned in displeasure, Dawson added more to her story by adding her mum’s reaction.
According to the actress, her mum’s biggest regret was not that her daughter’s cameo was cut.
“I know. I told my mom, and she was like, ‘That sucks. Now I can’t post the [behind the scenes] pictures [on social media]. ’”
“And I was like, ‘Right, Mom. Me being cut out of the movie that has, like, the largest viewership of a trailer ever, the issue is you can’t post your BTS photos.’”
Besides that, Dawson was not featured in the film, but she shared that her links to Spider-Man had been meaningful.
The star shared that her uncle Gus, who was a comic-book artist, passed his passion down to her.
“But like, my uncle Gus was a comic-book artist, and that’s really the reason I have such an admiration for this space.”
“I knew when Sin City was coming out; I auditioned for it and [knew about] Frank Miller. I understood these things because of [my uncle], and the first character he learnt to draw was Spider-Man.”
The connection got even stronger when Dawson revealed, “So Spider-Man is really huge. There’s a frame in one of the new comics that has a young Spider-Man talking to Daredevil, and they made it so that the young Spider-Man goes to PS19 in the Lower East Side — which is where I went to elementary school!”
Despite having such a personal connection with Spider-Man, the actress shared the rejection came as a shock.
“So when I tell you my [social media] post was all ready, with my BTS [photos], with my grandson wearing all his Spider-Man stuff.”
Then, in a quip, Dawson said, “I got the email that was like, ‘Yeah, nah. So I’m a reject of Spider-Man and a reject of the Devil’s Rejects.”
But before capping off, the actress shared a hopeful message about Claire Temple.
“My character is somewhere in that same universe, and I really love that. I hope I get to be Claire again,” she concluded.
