Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s shocking breakup turned a decade.
The duo separated on September 14, 2016, following a private-jet flight involving their six children. Just days later, Jolie filed for divorce, bringing an end to their 12-year relationship and two-year marriage. It followed a lengthy custody dispute and an ongoing battle over their French winery, Chateau Miraval.
Now, insiders reflected on the difficult years of Jolie and Pitt since their split. A source close to Jolie told People Magazine that it have been “a very difficult and painful decade” for the actress, who is now focused on recovery, creative work and a new chapter in her life.
The former couple’s six children are now adults, and several have taken steps to remove “Pitt” from their surnames. A source close to the actor says there is currently “very little communication” between Pitt and his children, calling the situation “a tragedy.”
The source close to Pitt added, “there’s a much greater willingness by probably everybody that things were not so great,” noting, “They were not necessarily as good as they looked to people on the outside. There were a lot of issues that were festering for many years.”
Meanwhile, Jolie source noted, “There has never been any real understanding of what happened that caused her to file for divorce, or the years that followed.”
“For a decade she has kept silent, so not to disparage the father of her children. She has kept a dignified silence even while she was being attacked with misinformation,” they added further.
Despite personal challenges, both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have continued to thrive professionally.
