The bodies of 30 Bangladeshi migrant workers have been brought back home from Kuwait.
The bodies arrived this evening (18 April) on a chartered flight operated by Kuwait Airways, officials at the expatriate welfare desk of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport confirmed the matter.
In addition, the bodies of two more Bangladeshi migrants were repatriated on a separate flight from Malaysia.
Al Amin Nayan, an official of BRAC’s migration programme stationed at the airport, told The Business Standard that the repatriation had been delayed due to disruptions in flights caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
“Several Kuwait flights were cancelled due to the war situation, and these bodies were supposed to arrive on those flights. As a result, there was a backlog,” he said.
“Later, arrangements were made to bring the bodies back through a chartered flight,” he added.
