Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push a group of people into Bangladesh through the Benapole border.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Saiful Islam Khan, commanding officer of the 49 BGB Battalion in Jashore, confirmed the matter.
The incident took place in the early hours of today (1 June) at the Sadipur border area in Jashore’s Benapole, where BSF reportedly tried to force a group of 8-10 individuals into Bangladesh by describing them as “Bangladeshi nationals” in violation of international border protocols.
According to BGB sources, the group was brought near border pillar No. 19/S-6 in the Sadipur Kharer Maath area, north of the Benapole international check post, after BSF personnel allegedly opened a fenced gate on the Indian side of the border.
Alert BGB patrol teams stationed in the area intervened promptly and prevented the push-in attempt.
Lieutenant Colonel Saiful said patrols had been intensified throughout the night along the border.
“We have strengthened surveillance across all border points, including Sadipur, to prevent any push-in attempts. Such actions will not be allowed under any circumstances,” he said.
He added that the group of 8-10 men, women and children remained stranded at the zero line near Sadipur field as of this afternoon.
BGB said similar push-in attempts could occur through other border points, prompting heightened vigilance across the region.
The force has also sent a formal letter of protest to BSF, and preparations are underway for a flag meeting between the two border forces to resolve the situation, added the BGB official.
