J.K. Rowling is one of the most influential authors in modern literary history. Her success stems from the groundbreaking Harry Potter series, which reshaped the fantasy genre.
Now, the BBC has greenlit a documentary series on the author that focuses on three aspects of her life.
Starting with her rise to fame. Being a single, struggling author, she became the author of one of the most successful book franchises.
Then, there is Rowling’s cultural influence. The book series, which later expanded into a blockbuster film franchise, theme parks, video games, merchandising, and now a TV series, turned the novel series into a cultural force.
But without addressing her controversial public image, any discussion of Rowling’s career and life is incomplete.
Hence, it would be added to the docu-series that will focus on the author becoming a divisive figure in the circles of women’s and transgender rights, due to her stance on gender identity leaving her fans divided.
According to the docu-series logline, “Admired by supporters as a fearless defender of women’s rights and condemned by critics who call her an opponent of trans equality, she finds herself divided from some of the actors and fans who once championed her work.”
Rowling will not participate in the making of the docu-series; instead, her writings and interviews will be used to examine her life.
