An inter-ministerial meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday (17 September) to review Bangladesh’s preparations for the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), scheduled to be held in Antalya, Türkiye, from 9 to 20 November.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam chaired the meeting.
The meeting discussed Bangladesh’s delegation to COP31, which will be led by the prime minister, and the country’s key positions and priorities at the climate conference.
Officials also reviewed plans for Bangladesh’s pavilion in the Blue Zone and a jute expo in the Green Zone of the COP31 venue.
Shama highlighted the importance of showcasing women’s leadership and resilience in climate action and locally led innovation, noting that women and children often bear a disproportionate impact from climate-induced disasters.
The meeting also stressed closer coordination among relevant ministries and agencies to effectively present Bangladesh’s climate priorities, achievements, and expectations at COP31.
