Bangladesh’s Technical and Madrasah Education Division (TMED) and Germany’s development agency GIZ have signed an implementation agreement to strengthen vocational training in the renewable energy sector, aiming to equip the country’s workforce with skills for the growing green economy.
According to a press release, the agreement was signed in Dhaka today (8 July). It formalises cooperation on the Vocational Training in the Field of Renewable Energy (TVET4RE) project, implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The initiative is part of Germany’s broader development cooperation with Bangladesh, following its commitment of €21.77 million in January 2026 for sustainable development projects.
It also builds on a memorandum of understanding signed with the Economic Relations Division on 11 June this year.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, TMED Secretary Md Daud Miah said the agreement reflects the longstanding development partnership between Bangladesh and Germany and their shared commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education and training (TVET), promoting sustainable economic development, and expanding opportunities for the country’s workforce.
According to the organisers, the TVET4RE project seeks to address rising demand for green skills by translating renewable energy policies into practical technical training. It also aligns with the Bangladesh TVET Implementation Plan 2025-2030, supporting institutional integration and long-term workforce development.
Officials also highlighted GIZ’s broader cooperation portfolio, noting that the TVET4RE project and the Professional Education in Industrial and Environmental Safety (PRECISE) project complement each other in promoting green skills, environmental sustainability and industrial capacity.
Among those present were Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education Abul Khayer Md Akkas Ali, Additional Secretary (Development) of TMED Shamshur Rahman Khan, Bangladesh Technical Education Board Chairman Engr Md Ruhul Amin, and Deputy Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy Jannis Hussain.
The event concluded with a discussion and question-and-answer session involving representatives from TMED, the Directorate of Technical Education and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.
