The Embassy of Bangladesh in Ireland formally began operations today (1 October), marking a new milestone in diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development in a Facebook post today, saying the embassy had initially started its administrative functions from a temporary chancery office at Alexandra House in the diplomatic area of Ballsbridge, Dublin.
Ambassador-designate Mohammed Nore Alam assumed charge of the mission today. He is expected to present his Letters of Credence to the President of Ireland in due course.
The establishment of the resident embassy is expected to strengthen diplomatic engagement between Bangladesh and Ireland and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to the ministry.
The mission will also work to strengthen engagement with the Bangladeshi community in Ireland, which is estimated to comprise around 25,000 people.
The embassy is making arrangements to introduce passport, visa and other consular services for Bangladeshi nationals and other eligible applicants.
The ministry said the dates, procedures and other details regarding consular services would be announced through official channels in due course.
The government expects the establishment of the resident embassy to further deepen friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Bangladesh and Ireland.
