Bangladesh and Brunei Darussalam have discussed expanding cooperation in manpower recruitment, trade and investment, energy and air connectivity.
The issues were discussed when Brunei High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haji Haris bin Othman paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the foreign ministry today (29 July), according to a ministry press release.
During the meeting, the state minister expressed Bangladesh’s interest in facilitating employment opportunities for more Bangladeshi workers in Brunei.
She also stressed the importance of stronger business-to-business engagement, greater collaboration between women entrepreneurs and the establishment of a Bangladesh–Brunei Chamber of Commerce to deepen bilateral trade ties.
The high commissioner welcomed the proposals and reaffirmed Brunei’s commitment to expanding trade and investment cooperation with Bangladesh.
Bangladesh also sought greater access to the Bruneian market for its pharmaceutical, jute and agricultural products, including mangoes.
Both sides agreed to form a joint business group comprising representatives of business chambers, entrepreneurs and investors from Bangladesh and Brunei to explore mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities.
