‘Bangla Tesla’: The new road terror

Bangladesh recorded 3,257 deaths in 4,910 road accidents between January and July this year, putting the overall death rate at 66.3% – nearly two deaths for every three accidents. The rate was significantly higher for ‘Bangla Tesla’ accidents, at 78.6%, giving the battery-powered rickshaw the third-highest death rate among vehicle categories, after motorcycles and CNG-run auto-rickshaws.
