Awami League is not our enemy, but an ally: MP Nasir

Awami League is not an enemy of the BNP but an ally, said Sunamganj-2 (Dirai-Shalla) MP Nasir Chowdhury today (6 August), claiming that the two parties fought together and that the Awami League would soon merge with the BNP.

He made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at a July Remembrance Rally.

“The Awami League is not our enemy; they are our ally. We fought together. Before long, the Awami League will merge with the BNP,” Nasir said.

The BNP lawmaker also dismissed plans for another BNP rally scheduled for 8 August, saying the gathering he addressed today was the party’s main programme.

“Those trying to organise a separate rally in the name of the BNP on 8 August want to create divisions within the party. Everyone should remain vigilant about them,” he said.

Responding to what he described as a smear campaign against him, Nasir denied allegations of corruption and said he was being targeted by people frustrated because they could no longer exploit the party’s name for personal gain.

“I do not even have a brother, and I have even lost my house. Those who cannot engage in corruption by using the party’s name are spreading false propaganda against me,” he said.

Rejecting allegations that he had embezzled public funds, the MP urged people to verify government budget allocations with the upazila administration.

“As long as I am alive, I will not allow anyone to engage in corruption,” he added.
