At least 20 people have been injured in a clash between two groups over the eviction of a shop in Brahmanbaria.
The skirmish took place in Thaliara village under Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila today (7 June), starting at around 10am and continuing intermittently until about 1:30pm.
Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam said police brought the situation under control, but the area remains tense.
Additional police have been deployed to prevent further clashes, he said.
He also confirmed that four people have been detained in connection with the incident, though their identities have not been confirmed.
According to police and locals, a long-standing dispute over a shop existed between Joynal Mia and Jubayer.
Several arbitration meetings had previously been held regarding the matter, with the most recent one deciding in favour of the shop’s eviction.
However, tensions resurfaced over the decision, eventually escalating into violence this morning.
The two groups attacked each other using locally made weapons, while bricks were also hurled during the clash, leading to a chase and counter-chase situation.
At least 20 people, including women, were injured.
