Chief of Army Staff and Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) President General Waker-Uz-Zaman today (27 June) called on people to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle through regular physical exercise and sports.
Speaking as the chief guest while inaugurating the country’s Olympic Day 2026 celebrations in Dhaka, he stressed the importance of spreading the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect across society and encouraged people from all walks of life to participate in sports and physical activities.

The BOA, with the support of the Bangladesh Army, organised the celebrations to mark the founding anniversary of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), reads a press release.
Held under the theme “You Can Do This, Let’s Move,” the programme aimed to inspire athletes and the general public to embrace regular exercise and active living.
The central rally began at 7am from the Bangladesh Army Stadium and passed along Airport Road before returning to the stadium via Staff Road Level Crossing. Similar rallies and programmes were also organised in the country’s seven other divisional cities.

A sports demonstration was held after the rally, where the army chief distributed certificates among participants.
More than 1,500 people, including national athletes, coaches, sports organisers, Olympians, officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council, representatives of military and civilian organisations, students from various educational institutions, sports enthusiasts and members of the media, took part in the event.
