Apratim’s autopsy completed; first janaza at Comilla University tomorrow

The autopsy of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, the only son of Comilla University Associate Professor Dr Nahida Nahid, has been completed, with his first janaza scheduled to be held at the university campus at 10am tomorrow (20 September).

Comilla University Bangla Department teacher Nur Mohammad Raju confirmed the matter.

A second janaza is likely to be held at Apratim’s father’s home in Chandpur, he said.

Apratim went missing yesterday (18 September) around 3:30pm after leaving home with his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with friends. His body was recovered around noon today (19 September) from a jungle south of South Mor in Cumilla’s Kotbari area.

Police said there were severe injuries to his head.

Apratim was a seventh-grader at Border Guard Public School and the only child of Dr Nahida Nahid and KM Firoz Shahriar.

According to his family, Apratim left their home in Ward 24 of Kotbari under Sadar South Police Station at around 3:30pm yesterday with his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with friends. He did not return home, and his father filed a general diary at the police station that evening after searching for him at several locations.

Multiple sources said a young man named Tuhin, who had been with Apratim from the afternoon, may be linked to the killing and is in police custody. Another youth, identified as Anas, has also reportedly been detained.

Police have not officially confirmed the alleged involvement of either Tuhin or Anas.
