KM Firoz Shahriar, father of slain schoolboy Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, today (5 October) called for biological or radiological tests to establish the actual ages of the accused in his son’s murder case.
He made the demand at a discussion organised by Comilla University on law and order, social security and the delivery of public services.
Shahriar said the accused sent to the Gazipur Child Development Centre under the Children Act should undergo age-verification tests to ensure those responsible for the killing face proper legal proceedings.
“I want the actual ages of those who have been sent to the Gazipur Child Development Centre under the Children Act to be determined through biological or radiological tests. The murder of Apratim must be properly tried. If those who killed him are not brought to justice and are released, we will face security risks,” he said.
The meeting, chaired by Comilla University Vice-Chancellor Professor M M Shariful Karim, also discussed the security of university teachers and students following the killing of Apratim, the only child of university Associate Professor Nahida Begum.
The vice-chancellor called for faster cooperation from government authorities to strengthen security for students across the university.
