A Chattogram-based social and cultural organisation, Agnibina Pathagar, has launched an innovative reels competition aimed at encouraging youth to document environmental challenges and bring issues such as hill cutting, river encroachment, plastic pollution, wetland filling and climate change to the attention of both the public and policymakers.
Under the theme “Capturing the spirit of nature through the lens”, the Environmental Reels Competition 2026 invites participants to use their own cameras to showcase real-life examples of local environmental degradation, pollution and conservation efforts.
According to the organisers, participants may submit their original environment-themed videos online until 11:59pm on 22 August.
Detailed competition rules and application instructions are available through a Google Form, with the competition open to participants nationwide.
Organisers said that selected videos highlighting significant environmental issues will be forwarded to relevant government agencies and environmental organisations.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Akram Hossain Rana, an organiser at Agnibina Pathagar, said, “Environmental crises are becoming increasingly severe across Chattogram and the rest of the country. Yet we often witness these problems without documenting them or bringing them to wider public attention. We want youth to observe the realities around them, capture them on camera and present them to society.”
He added, “If a single reel can clearly illustrate an environmental problem, it becomes more than just social media content – it becomes an important record of its time. We will seek to share videos highlighting major environmental concerns with relevant government departments and environmental organisations.”
The top three winners will receive special content-creation prizes, along with books and trees.
The top 10 participants will also receive attractive gifts, while every participant will be awarded a certificate of participation and an environmentally friendly tree sapling. Winners residing outside Chattogram will receive their prizes by courier.
