The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two cases against former Kushtia-4 lawmaker Abdur Rouf and his wife, Jannatun Nahar, over allegations of acquiring assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
The cases were filed at the ACC’s Integrated District Office in Kushtia today (28 October), according to the case statements.
The ACC alleges that Abdur Rouf accumulated assets worth Tk2.65 crore beyond his known sources of income. Investigators found movable and immovable assets worth Tk2.62 crore in his name and those of his dependants, while his reported liabilities stood at Tk23.32 lakh.
His family expenses, tax payments and other expenditure totalled Tk66.27 lakh, against verifiable income of Tk39.66 lakh, according to the case statement.
His wife is accused of acquiring assets worth Tk1.40 crore beyond her known sources of income. The ACC found movable and immovable assets worth Tk1.72 crore in her name, while her total assets and expenditure were reported at Tk1.95 crore. Her verifiable income stood at Tk54.65 lakh.
The ACC also alleges that Rouf abused his position as an MP to help his wife acquire assets using money obtained through bribery and corruption.
The case against Jannatun Nahar was filed under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, while Rouf was accused under Section 109 of the Penal Code.
The ACC said its investigation reviewed the couple’s asset, income and expenditure records from 1985 to 26 August 2025. Its headquarters approved the filing of the cases on 13 October.
The commission said any additional assets or involvement of other individuals uncovered during the investigation would be included in the case.
