A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking an investigation into the 18-month activities of the interim government led by former chief adviser Muhammad Yunus.
After a preliminary hearing today (17 May), the High Court bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar fixed Thursday (21 May) for its order.
Senior lawyer MK Rahman and petitioner-lawyer Mohsin Rashid appeared for the writ petitioners, while Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kajol represented the state.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, MK Rahman said the writ sought an investigation into the interim government’s 18-month activities.
He alleged that the government had created instability across different sectors, including the economy and healthcare.
“A commission should be formed under the Commission of Inquiry Act to prevent any elected government from being removed in an unconstitutional manner in the future,” he added.
MK Rahman said the court heard the matter and fixed Thursday for its order.
Mohsin Rashid told reporters that the petition sought a comprehensive and neutral investigation into all incidents that took place during the period.
“The government would determine how the investigation would be conducted,” he said.
He also said the attorney general informed the court that he would seek instructions from the government on the matter.
The petitioners also wanted the government’s position to be presented before the court at the next hearing, he added.
