A free Wi-Fi service has been officially launched at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, allowing around 37,000 passengers to access high-speed internet simultaneously.
The service was inaugurated today (17 May) at 2pm by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam, Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, and Prime Minister’s Advisor on Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Rehan Asif Asad were also present at the event.
At a press briefing, Afroza said the government has delivered improved digital services for airport passengers in line with its election manifesto commitment to ensure “fast and reliable internet for all”.
“We hope to inaugurate the third terminal soon, which will be an important milestone for us,” she added.
State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said more than 37,000 passengers can use the free Wi-Fi simultaneously. He also thanked the Prime Minister’s ICT advisor for the initiative.
According to officials, the Wi-Fi network covers around 94,000 square metres of the airport area, including Terminal 1, Terminal 2, domestic and VIP terminals, VVIP terminal, and parking areas, ensuring connectivity across all major passenger zones.
The system has been developed with modern infrastructure, including 250 access points, 48 kilometres of optical fibre and Ethernet cabling, and 37 access switches. Each access point can support up to 150 users, enabling around 37,500 concurrent connections.
The network operates with a total bandwidth capacity of 40 Gbps, ensuring stable and high-speed connectivity across the airport premises.
A pilot run began on 26 April 2026, during which around 20,000 passengers used the service, consuming approximately 2.3 terabytes of data.
Officials said the initiative has significantly improved access to digital services, communication, and online activities for both domestic and international travellers passing through the airport.
