A Dhaka court has set 7 June for the submission of the further investigation report in the murder case filed over the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, marking the 14th extension granted to the investigating officer.
The court had earlier fixed today (17 May) for submitting the further probe report in the case. However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the agency currently investigating the case, failed to submit it.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam then fixed the new date for submission of the report, Sub-Inspector Ruknuzzaman of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Prosecution Division confirmed.
On 6 January, Detective Branch Inspector Faisal Ahmed, the investigating officer at the time, submitted a charge sheet against 17 people in the case.
On 15 January, the complainant, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, filed a no-confidence (naraji) petition against the charge sheet.
The court later ordered the CID to conduct further investigation into the case.
According to the case statement, Hadi formed the political-cultural platform Inqilab Mancha after the uprising and served as its spokesperson.
At around 2:20pm on 12 December, assailants on a motorcycle shot Hadi in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station and fled.
He sustained serious bullet injuries to his head and below his right ear.
He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later to Evercare Hospital for treatment.
As his condition deteriorated, Hadi was taken to Singapore by air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment.
He died there on 18 December while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, Jaber had filed an attempted murder case at Paltan police station on 14 December.
The case was later converted into a murder case.
