An economic zone will be established in Lakshmipur as part of broader development plans for the district, Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee said today (15 May).
“We [people of Lakshmipur] have suffered deprivation for 17 years. We do not want to remain neglected, deprived, or overlooked anymore. The formation of Chandraganj upazila has proved that if BNP wants, it can make things happen,” he said while addressing a views-exchange meeting with leaders of the newly formed Chandraganj upazila BNP and its associate bodies in Lakshmipur.
Anee, also the lawmaker for Lakshmipur-3 (Sadar) constituency and convener of the district BNP, said the area had long been deprived in terms of roads, drainage systems, schools, colleges, and madrasas over the past 17 years.
“We must overcome this situation. We will establish a university in Lakshmipur. We will also set up a medical college and an economic zone,” he added.
