Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a special training programme for imams and meat processors ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, focusing on proper animal slaughter, meat processing, hide preservation and sacrificial waste management.
Dhaka North Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan inaugurated the programme at Mirpur in the capital this morning (14 May).
Addressing the event, the administrator said participants must follow the methods taught in the training while slaughtering animals.
He said animal hides play a significant role in the country’s economy and stressed proper preservation and processing. Adequate salt will be distributed free of cost for preserving hides, he said.
He said seasonal workers should be guided to follow proper hygiene practices. Cleaning blood immediately with water after slaughter can prevent foul odour, he added.
Waste should be placed in designated bags in front of homes for quick removal by city corporation workers.
Shafiqul expressed hope that with collective efforts, the city could be cleaned quickly after Eid.
In his remarks, DNCC chief health officer Imrul Kayes said the country’s demand for sacrificial animals this year is around 10.106 million. He said the training will help maintain the quality of meat and hides through practical demonstrations and urged imams to raise awareness during Friday sermons.
