Adhikari today (11 May) announced that his government has cleared the transfer of land to Border Security Force for fencing the border with Bangladesh.
“The West Bengal government gave a nod to the transfer of land to BSF for fencing the border with Bangladesh. The process starts from today and will be completed within 45 days,” Adhikari told reporters in Kolkata As the first decision after assuming charge on Friday last, West Bengal’s new Chief Minister Suvendu.
Adhikari said clearance for the transfer of land to BSF was given at the first meeting of the Bengal cabinet.
In the past, the BSF has often accused the previous Mamata Banerjee government of stalling the handover of the land to BSF for fencing the border.
Alleged infiltration from Bangladesh and the presence of “illegal” immigrants in Bengal was one of the central themes of BJP’s campaign in the recent election spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Adhikari also announced the implementation of the Modi government’s flagship medical insurance scheme Aayushman Bharat and several other schemes of the federal government in the state which the Mamata dispensation had refused to accept.
The cabinet also approved a proposal for a five-year extension in the age limit of school job applicants, fulfilling a key promise held out by Indian Home Minister Amit Shah during the campaign for the recent assembly elections.
