A severe traffic gridlock occurred on the Gazaria stretch of the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Munshiganj after a cargo truck overturned, disrupting vehicular movement.
The congestion began this morning (9 May) on the Chattogram-bound lane, stretching from the Baushia point in Gazaria up to the Meghna Bridge area.
At the time of filing this report, long-haul vehicles remained stuck for hours, causing significant inconvenience to drivers and passengers travelling towards Chattogram and Cumilla.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhaberchar Highway Police Outpost in Gazaria Md Shah Kamal Akond said the accident occurred early this morning when a cargo truck lost control and overturned on the highway in the Vitikandi area of the Chattogram-bound lane.
After receiving the information, highway police rushed to the spot and began removing the scattered goods and the overturned truck from the road.
“The goods carried by the truck were scattered across the highway, creating an obstruction to traffic movement, resulting in a long tailback from Bhaberchar to the areas around Meghna Bridge,” he said.
