Gazipur Agricultural University has secured the 23rd position globally in the “Financial Impact-Driven Technology Transfer” category of the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2026, marking a significant milestone in its international academic and research profile.
The university has also been ranked 470th overall among the world’s top 500 innovative universities and remains the only public university from Bangladesh to achieve the distinction.
The rankings, published on 7 May 2026 on WURI’s official website, evaluated universities across 24 categories based on three core criteria — innovativeness, implementability and impact.
GAU’s performance in global innovation rankings has shown steady progress in recent years. In WURI 2025, the university ranked 77th among the world’s top 100 institutions for innovation impact and 331st among the top 400 innovative universities, leading all public universities in Bangladesh.
The university has also maintained strong positions in the Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings 2025 and 2026 across multiple categories. GAU ranked first in Bangladesh in the Life Sciences category in THE 2025 and remained the country’s top agricultural university in the THE Asia University Rankings 2025 and 2026.
In addition, GAU topped Bangladeshi agricultural universities in the QS World University Rankings Sustainability Rankings 2026, reflecting its growing focus on sustainable development and research-driven impact.
Reacting to the achievement, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman said the recognition reflects the collective effort of the university community.
“This achievement is not GAU’s alone, it reflects the potential of Bangladesh,” he said. “Despite limited resources and many challenges, our teachers, students, researchers and staff have continued to pursue excellence, and the world has recognised that effort.”
He added that the university’s focus remains on linking research with real-world impact.
“Our goal is to ensure that research contributes to national development and helps address global challenges. This international recognition will further strengthen that journey,” he said.
