Two associates of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s former defence and security adviser Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique have again been placed on a three-day remand each in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Ramna Police Station in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain passed the order today (8 May), following a police petition. State prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the matter.
The accused sent to remand are Md Mohidul Islam, 42, and Md Chan Miah, 46.
Earlier, after completion of a second seven-day remand, the accused were produced before the court and the investigation officer, Ramna Detective Branch Inspector Md Amzad Hossain Talukdar, sought another seven-day remand.
Defence lawyers, meanwhile, appealed for cancellation of the remand, while the prosecution opposed the plea. After hearing both sides, the court granted a further three-day remand for each accused.
Earlier, the court had granted four days’ remand on 1 May and three days’ remand on 5 May.
On 19 April, Mohidul Islam was arrested from Thakurgaon, while Chan Miah was arrested from the Bhashantek area of Dhaka. Since then, they have been shown arrested in multiple cases and taken on remand several times.
According to the case statement, on the afternoon of 12 May 2025, anti-government processions were being organised in front of Rupayan Tower at Banglamotor in the capital in an attempt to strengthen activities of a banned organisation.
In connection with the incident, Sub-Inspector Awlad Hossain of Ramna Model Police Station filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act, naming 11 individuals and accusing another 40 to 50 unidentified persons.
