Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Chandpur on 16 May and Feni district on 25 May, said Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today (6 May).
The minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists after holding a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the prime minister’s cabinet division office in secretariat this morning.
The minister said that it was revealed in the meeting that the technical work, survey and feasibility study of the Padma Barrage Project have almost been completed. The government would soon take a decision on this matter, he added.
Replying to a question from a journalist, Anee said that the canal excavation programme is ongoing. During the visit, the prime minister will inaugurate the canal excavation programmes in Chandpur and Feni before the monsoon season begins, he added.
Highlighting the government’s initiative undertaken to excavate a 20,000-kilometre canal across the country over the next five years, he said that, in line with the programme, the prime minister has already visited some districts and inaugurated the excavation programme there.
“All of our ministers and lawmakers are continuing this programme in their respective areas. As the monsoon season has almost arrived, perhaps we will be able to continue this programme until May.
After the monsoon, we will continue this canal excavation programme again around next November, December, and January,” he added.
