RAB has detained madrasah teacher Amanullah Mahmudi Sagor, the prime accused in a case filed over the rape and impregnation of an 11-year-old student in Madan upazila of Netrokona.
A team of RAB-14 from Mymensingh detained Sagor, 30, from the Gauripur area, confirmed Madan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Tarikul Islam.
However, the accused has not yet been handed over to police. The OC said Sagor is expected to be transferred to police custody in the evening.
Contacted, RAB-14 Commanding Officer Naimul Hasan said that detailed information will be provided at a press conference around 12 noon today (6 May).
Earlier, on 23 April, the mother of the victim filed a case at Madan Police Station against two individuals, including Sagor, after learning that her daughter was seven months pregnant.
The incident has since sparked widespread outrage across the country.
Sagor, 30, the founder of the madrasah, went live on Facebook yesterday from an undisclosed location, claiming his innocence and demanding a DNA test to determine the paternity of the unborn child.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred on 2 October last year.
After classes ended in the afternoon and other teachers and students had already left for home, Sagor allegedly instructed the victim to sweep the mosque adjacent to the madrasah and later asked her to clean his room.
As soon as she entered, he allegedly assaulted her.
The FIR further states that when the victim cried out, he threatened to beat her and expel her from the madrasah.
The FIR also states that he is accused of raping her four to five times in a room beside the mosque’s veranda as well as in classrooms.
On 18 April, when the mother noticed sudden physical changes in the child, she took her to a local diagnostic centre for a medical check-up, where doctors found that the child was in her third trimester of pregnancy.
