The Election Commission (EC) today (18 January) cancelled the nomination of BNP candidate Sarwar Alamgir for the Chattogram-2 constituency on grounds of loan default.
The decision was delivered in the afternoon on the final day of appeal hearings.
Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Nurul Amin had filed an appeal challenging the validity of Sarwar Alamgir’s nomination. After reviewing the appeal, the commission upheld the objection and consequently declared the BNP candidate’s nomination cancelled.
Meanwhile, the commission rejected an appeal against BNP candidate Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury for the Chattogram-4 constituency. As a result, his nomination remains valid.
