Two individuals were detained after a group of leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League staged a flash procession on the Dhaka University campus early today (2 May).
The university’s proctorial team detained a Chhatra League leader and a microbus driver during the incident and handed them over to Shahbagh Police Station. A microbus was also seized from the spot.
Dhaka University Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
The detainees were identified as Farhan Tanvir Nasif, organisational secretary of AF Rahman Hall Chhatra League, and the driver, Rubel.
“Around 6am, a few members of the Chhatra League brought out a procession. Our mobile team immediately detained two people and handed them over to Shahbagh Thana. A microbus was also seized from the scene,” the proctor said.
According to a video circulating online, the procession was obstructed near the Raju Sculpture as it approached from the Shahbagh-TSC road.
At that point, several activists quickly boarded a black microbus and left the area.
The proctorial team then detained the driver of another microbus present in the TSC area and a Chhatra League leader before handing them over to the police.
