The New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chattogram Port has set a new record for single-day container handling, signalling a continued rise in operational efficiency at the country’s busiest seaport.
Yesterday (30 April), the terminal handled 5,709 TEUs, the highest ever processed in a single day at NCT, according to a press release issued by the port authority.
The latest figure surpasses the previous record of 5,484 TEUs, set on 11 April, marking a quick turnaround in performance gains within weeks.
Operated by Chittagong Dry Dock Limited, the terminal has seen improved productivity following recent operational changes.
Across all terminals, the port handled a total of 10,162 TEUs in the same 24-hour period, reflecting a broader increase in handling capacity.
Port officials attributed the achievement to better coordination, improved management and the sustained efforts of the workforce.
The milestone coincided with International Workers’ Day, with the authority recognising the contribution of workers in achieving the record throughput.
Industry insiders say such gains point to stronger capacity utilisation and could help reduce congestion and turnaround time, supporting smoother trade flows through the port.
