A mother and her daughter were killed in an attack by wild elephants in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar in the early hours today (30 April).
The incident took place around 4:30am at Abdul Karim Colony in the West Khuniapalong area, confirmed Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ramu Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Asma Bibi, 25, wife of Akram Mia, and their daughter, Mohsena Begum, 3.
Local Union Parishad (UP) member Joynal Abedin Babul said a herd of wild elephants entered the colony in the early hours and attacked the area. The mother and daughter, who were asleep at the time, died on the spot in the attack. Residents later recovered the bodies.
OC Monirul Islam said police went to the scene after receiving the news. The bodies have been recovered and sent to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
