Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told parliament that steps have been taken to further strengthen security at the country’s international airports.
He made the remarks today (28 April) while responding to a starred question from ruling party MP Mohammad Fakhrul Islam.
The minister said, “Overall security at the country’s international airports has already been ensured. However, to further improve security services, the Bangladesh Police is implementing various plans.”
He said checkpoints have been set up at entry and exit points, and patrols have been intensified across airport areas.
“A multi-layered security system is in place, with intelligence-based measures being taken to prevent any form of sabotage. Coordination and information sharing among police, intelligence agencies, and airport authorities have also been strengthened,” he added.
On surveillance, he said, “Police monitoring has been increased to prevent theft and robbery. CCTV cameras have been installed at key points, and modern technology is being used to ensure overall security.”
He added that advanced equipment and enhanced scanning systems are being used to prevent prohibited items from entering airport premises.
The minister also said special training programmes are being conducted to tackle terrorism, ensure cyber security, and respond effectively to emergencies, while measures such as modern baggage systems, additional immigration counters, increased manpower, and body-worn cameras have further strengthened airport security.
