Police have arrested four people, including a woman, over an alleged gang rape of an indigenous woman in Chattogram’s Export Processing Zone area.
The arrests were made today (24 April) from different rented houses in the Barrister College area, said Atikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of EPZ Police Station.
The detainees were identified as Aprumong Marma, 26, Thuaiching Marma, 29, Othainu Marma, 30, and Okraija Marma.
According to the case statement and police, the 22-year-old victim works at a garment factory in the Chattogram EPZ and lived in a rented apartment with other female workers.
On 10 April, an acquaintance of the victim came from Feni for medical treatment and stayed at the apartment. Later, another known woman informed the accused about the matter.
On the night of 19 April, the suspects allegedly took the victim to another house under the pretext of questioning her. There, she was allegedly threatened over allegations of an “immoral relationship” and then assaulted.
According to the complaint, the accused went into hiding after the incident.
Following the victim’s complaint, police conducted drives in the area and arrested the suspects from different locations.
OC Atikur said a case has been filed and the accused will be produced before the court.
