Two people were killed and three others injured after a passenger bus crashed into a road divider in the Banani area of the capital this afternoon (23 April).
The accident occurred around 3:30pm in front of Setu Bhaban when a bus belonging to Bhuyian Paribahan lost control while attempting to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, Muhammad Faridul Islam.
Zia Rahman Ziko, additional deputy commissioner of the Gulshan Traffic Division, also confirmed that the fatalities occurred when the bus struck the divider after the driver tried to avoid a pedestrian.
The OC said the two deceased were initially believed to have been engaged in road beautification work, though their identities could not be confirmed immediately.
Three injured victims were rescued and taken to Kurmitola General Hospital for treatment, he added.
He said, the bus involved in the crash has been seized, although the driver managed to flee the scene.
