The 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a 15-day movement programme beginning tomorrow to demand the implementation of reforms outlined in the July Charter following a national referendum.
The programme was detailed by Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar during a press conference held today (16 April) at Al Falah Hall in the capital’s Moghbazar.
The movement will commence with a mass procession in the capital tomorrow, with similar demonstrations scheduled for all divisional cities on 25 April and every district across the country on 2 May.
In addition to the street protests, the alliance plans to conduct daily leaflet distributions and seminars in major district towns throughout the two-week period.
Following the district-level events on 2 May, the alliance intends to escalate the movement with rallies in divisional cities and protest processions across 12 city corporations. A major rally in the capital is also planned for a later date.
The decision to launch the movement was finalised during a meeting of the alliance’s top leadership earlier in the day. The session was chaired by the Leader of the Opposition and Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
Among those present were Opposition Chief Whip and NCP Convener Nahid Islam, LDP President Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmad, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Mamunul Haque, AB Party General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad, and Bangladesh Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman (Iran).
