Rapid Action Battalion officials arrested Saddam Hossain, also known as “Golakata Bacha,” a key associate of the listed criminal “Boro” Sajjad, in Sitakunda of Chattogram yesterday (3 April).
According to RAB-7, Saddam, 37, a resident of the Arefin Nagar area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station, was the second-in-command of Sajjad’s criminal network and had been a wanted fugitive.
Acting on a tip-off regarding his whereabouts, a team from RAB-7 conducted a drive in the South Salimpur area of Sitakunda upazila yesterday afternoon and nabbed him.
RAB officials stated that Saddam faces at least seven criminal cases across several police stations, including Panchlaish, Chawkbazar, Double Mooring, Bayezid Bostami, Akbar Shah, and Sitakunda.
The charges against him include murder, attempted murder, illegal arms possession, robbery, extortion, land grabbing, and drug trafficking.
Following his arrest, he was handed over to Panchlaish Model Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Locals in Jungle Salimpur and nearby areas said they had long been terrorised by his activities.
