The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, and three rounds of ammunition used by Mohammad Irfan, an associate of the top criminal group “Boro Sazzad”, during a raid in the Bayezid Bostami Police Station area of Chattogram early Tuesday (31 March).
RAB-7 Chattogram Commanding Officer Lt Col Md Hafizur Rahman told The Business Standard that the recovered firearm and ammunition have been handed over to the local police station for further legal action.
According to the RAB official, the operation was conducted based on a tip-off that several individuals were staying on the fifth floor of a building in the Polaish area on Nezam Hamza Road with the intention of selling drugs.
Acting on the information, a RAB team carried out the raid at around 4:30am.
Sensing the presence of RAB, Mohammad Irfan fled the scene, Hafizur said.
During a subsequent search of the flat, the team recovered the foreign-made pistol, a magazine, and three rounds of ammunition from a yellow shopping bag kept inside a drawer next to his bed.
“RAB’s operations to curb crime are ongoing. Intelligence surveillance has been intensified to eliminate illegal arms and drugs. Ensuring public safety is our primary objective,” Hafizur added.
He further said that RAB-7 remains on alert to apprehend Mohammad Irfan.
