“We want to clearly know whether the order that has been issued is law. Article 152 of the Constitution explicitly states that an order can be considered law. Yet some are saying it is not law and unconstitutional,” he said.

Rangpur-4 MP Akhter Hossen said that calling the referendum unconstitutional, despite people having expressed their verdict in its favour, would disgrace the 13th National Parliament.
“On 30 January in Rangpur, Tarique Rahman urged the people to vote ‘yes’ in the referendum. Now, after encouraging them to do so, why are they refusing to take responsibility? We want to ask this question to the prime minister,” Akhter said in the parliament today (31 March).
Akhter, also the National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary, further emphasised the legal validity of the order.
“We want to clearly know whether the order that has been issued is law. Article 152 of the Constitution explicitly states that an order can be considered law. Yet some are saying it is not law and unconstitutional,” he said.
The MP added, “There has been a discussion here about the issued ordinance. Will this ordinance be approved in parliament or not? Whether the ordinance is approved in this parliament or not, there is no scope to declare the referendum invalid.”
