Five people, including a child, were killed after being run over by a train in Kalihati upazila of Tangail tonight (27 March).
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately, however, authorities suspect that all the victims belonged to the same family.
The incident occurred around 8pm in the Dhalatengor area.
Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector of Tangail Railway Station outpost, said a Dhaka-bound passenger bus ran out of fuel near the spot, prompting several passengers to get off the vehicle.
“Some of them were sitting on the railway tracks beside the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway. At that time, the Sirajganj Express, coming from Dhaka, ran over them, leaving one child, two women, and two men dead on the spot.”
