Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT) to enhance cooperation in trade and investment.
The agreement was signed today (26 March) at the ICDT headquarters in Casablanca, Morocco, marking a significant step towards strengthening institutional collaboration between Bangladesh and the OIC-affiliated body.
Bangladesh Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the OIC, MJH Jabed, and ICDT Director General Latifa Elbouabdellaoui signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Speaking at the event, ICDT Director General Latifa Elbouabdellaoui praised Bangladesh’s active engagement within OIC platforms and its consistent contributions to ICDT activities. She described the signing of the MoU as a “historic occasion.”
She also revealed that ICDT is considering including Bangladesh as a pilot country in upcoming trade promotion initiatives, with a proposal to designate Dhaka as a regional hub for trade and investment matchmaking activities.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Morocco Sadia Faizunnesa and senior ICDT officials were also present at the ceremony.
Additionally, ICDT plans to update its country profile on Bangladesh and initiate discussions on a trade and investment programme for 2026–27. The proposed programme would include branding, workshops, trade negotiations, and capacity-building initiatives.
The MoU will initially remain in force for two years, with the possibility of extension subject to mutual agreement between the two parties.
