At least 10 people were injured in a late-night clash between two rival groups over establishing dominance in Gopinathpur village in Hamirdi union Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila.
The incident occurred around 12:30am today (20 March), when tensions between the two groups escalated into a violent clash involving brickbats, sticks, and locally made weapons.
According to police and locals, a long term conflict has been ongoing between Ismail Munshi and Chunnu Mia over influence in the area. The situation took a turn for the worse earlier last night around 9pm, when an argument broke out at a tea stall between their sons – Fuad, son of Ismail Munshi, and Ibrahim, son of Chunnu Mia.
The verbal altercation quickly turned into a scuffle, and as night deepened, supporters from both sides gathered, armed with sticks, locally made weapons, and bricks. Witnesses said the groups used torchlights during the clash, which lasted almost one hour and created panic across the village.
The situation eventually came under control following intervention by the elders of the area, though tension remains high between the two groups.
Several injured people were given primary treatment locally, while those seriously injured were taken to nearby health facilities. The identities of the injured could not be immediately confirmed.
When contacted, Bhanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman said no formal complaint had yet been filed regarding the incident.
“If we receive any complaint, we will investigate and take necessary action,” he added.
