Ministry of Social Welfare Secretary Mohammad Abu Yusuf has acknowledged irregularities during the data collection process for the government’s much-discussed Family Card programme, saying complaints have been received about ineligible households being included in the beneficiary list.
“We have received complaints during the data collection stage. Some households owning three-storey buildings were also found on the list of Family Card beneficiaries,” he said while speaking at a roundtable in Gulshan yesterday (12 March).
According to him, field data collectors reported that they were influenced by members of an opposition political party during the information-gathering process in certain areas.
“They said they were influenced by an opposition party because their supporters were dominant in that locality,” Yusuf said, adding that local guidance during the survey process may have led to manipulation of the data.
He emphasised that ensuring proper coordination remains a key challenge for the programme. “Data accuracy, data integrity, monitoring, evaluation and verification are extremely important,” he added.
