The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has appointed Prof Dr FM Siddiqui, former professor of the Department of Medicine at Dhaka Medical College, as the vice-chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU).
The Medical Education-1 branch of the Health Education and Family Welfare Division issued a notification in this regard today (9 March).
According to the notification, with the approval of the President and Chancellor, Siddiqui has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University under Section 12 of the Bangladesh Medical University Act, 1998 (amended by Ordinance No. 12 of 2025).
As per the conditions of the appointment, his tenure as VC will be four years from the date of joining. He will receive salary, allowances and other benefits associated with the post in accordance with the rules.
The notification also stated that, as vice-chancellor, he will perform his duties in line with Section 14 of the Bangladesh Medical University Act, 1998 (amended by Ordinance No. 12 of 2025).
It further said that the President and Chancellor may cancel the appointment at any time if deemed necessary.
