A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the legality of appointing six full-time administrators to six city corporations, including Dhaka North and Dhaka South.
The petition was filed today (4 March) by six Supreme Court lawyers led by Advocate Golam Kibria. The other petitioners are Zillur Rahman, Abu Daud Nizami, Al Muttaqi Billah, Ismail Hossain Sabuj, and Khalid Saifullah.
The local government secretary, the Election Commission, and other relevant authorities have been made respondents in the writ.
On 22 February, the government appointed six full-time administrators to six city corporations. The Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued a gazette notification (City Corporation-1 branch) formalising the appointments.
According to the notification, Md Abdus Salam was appointed to the Dhaka South City Corporation, Md Shafiqul Islam Khan to the Dhaka North City Corporation, Nazrul Islam Monju to the Khulna City Corporation, Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury to Sylhet City Corporation, Md Sakhawat Hossain Khan to Narayanganj City Corporation, and Md Shawkat Hossain Sarker to Gazipur City Corporation.
