Dhaka is experiencing severe low gas pressure as water entered a damaged distribution pipeline during repair work, compounded by an overall reduction in gas supply to the capital, according to the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited.
In a press release issued today (9 January), Titas said a gas distribution pipeline running beneath the Turag River at Amin Bazar was damaged after being struck by the anchor of a cargo vessel.
“Although the damaged pipeline has since been repaired, water entered the line during the repair process, causing significant disruption to gas flow across the Dhaka metropolitan area,” reads the release.
The situation has been further aggravated by reduced gas supply to the city, resulting in what the company described as a “severe low-pressure condition” in many parts of the capital.
Titas said efforts are ongoing to resolve the low-pressure issue and restore normal gas supply as soon as possible. The company also expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to consumers.
