A 16-year-old boy injured in a gas explosion at a residence in Halishahar, Chattogram, died while undergoing treatment in Dhaka this morning (24 February), raising the death toll from the incident to two.
Shawon, with 50% flame burns along with inhalation injury, died at 7:03am at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Resident Surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman.
The explosion occurred yesterday morning at Halima Manzil, a six-storey building in H Block of Halishahar, according to fire service officials.
At least nine members of the same family were injured in the blast.
Later that day, Nur Jahan, 35, was declared dead after being brought to the burn institute at around 6pm.
The injured are Shipon, 30; Suman, 40; Anas, 7; Aiman, 9; Shakhawat, 46; Ayesha, 4; and Pakhi, 35.
The injured were first taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
As their condition worsened, they were later shifted to the burn institute in Dhaka for advanced treatment.
