Retired secretary ABM Abdus Sattar has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on a contractual basis.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration last night (17 February) confirmed the appointment under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018. Sattar, an officer from the 1982 administrative cadre, has been appointed for a one-year term from the date of joining.
The notification stated that he must relinquish any existing professional, business, or employment ties with any government, semi-government, or private institutions or organisations in order to carry out his responsibilities in the role.
It also mentioned that other terms and conditions related to the appointment will be determined through a separate contract.
Sattar had been serving as personal secretary to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman since 3 January. Previously, he worked for many years as the personal secretary to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
