Married at First Sight UK has been cancelled after 10 seasons.
Channel 4 announced the news on Thursday. The decision comes in response to allegations from three women who appeared on the show. Two of them say their husbands raped them during production. The third says her husband committed sexual misconduct. One woman also alleges that her husband threatened to throw acid at her.
The men deny the allegations. However, one was arrested in June on suspicion of rape, per BBC. The women said that the network did not have enough protection measures.
Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra apologised to the women after an external review. “I am very sorry for the distress those women have clearly felt,” she said.
She added that the review could not decide whether the allegations were true. She said it found “no findings” that the show’s format was “inherently unsafe.”
However, the network boss said the series had “now run its course over 10 years” and called this a moment to start “a new era of creative renewal.”
The show first aired in July 2015. It follows singles who agree to marry strangers picked by relationship experts. The marriages are not legally binding. The couples go on a honeymoon together while cameras film their daily lives.
The UK series came after the US version, which launched on FYI in 2014 before moving on to Lifetime and Peacock.
